Refresh data / save plot info but not data

Post by percentage »

We are evaluating DPlot and like its ease of use. I created a plot from a CSV file which works fine.

My problem is that the data in the CSV file changes periodically and I would like to "refresh" the plot. Is there a way to do this without going back to the file open dialog?

Also, I would like to save the plot characteristics and source file name, but not the data so I can bring the plot up quickly. Is this possible?

It depends on how the data was brought into DPlot to start with. If you use Paste Special and checked the "Link" box, then the link information is saved with a DPlot file, and when you reopen the file it offers to reestablish the link (which means reopening that file in the source program). This is mostly applicable to Excel, though there may be other applications that this will work for. But if you're talking about a text file (e.g. CSV file) that you opened directly in DPlot - no, there's no way to do that.

If you use File>Save Preferences and save a settings file to the same folder where your data file exists, with the same name but an extension of .set, those settings will be used whenever you open that file in DPlot.

I left out an important part here. For this to work as described you'll need to check the "Automatically read preference file based on filename" box under Options>General.
