Marker from source/user

Is there any way to place some markers in the plot to annotate the plots?
Source of the marker can be from data source (which shall not be movable) or from the user browsing the plot (which user can move).

Some of the function/macro could be made availabe to data between the markers

About the only way to do this is with a text notation (Text>Add/Edit Note) with a one-character note consisting of a character from the Symbol font.
