Tutorial and Example Book

Post by richpauir »

David,

Have you ever considered having someone draft a tutorial and example book using some of the information in the online FAQ and DPlot Help? There could even be an advanced applications chapter to show off the really cool stuff that's beyond the basics.

A book or manual might be a good way to reach new users who prefer physical reading materials over computer based tutorials.

Just a thought...

Thanks,

Richard,
Ah, a volunteer! :D

No, beyond what's in the "How do I create the example plots?" section and expanding on those, I haven't considered doing this but it is a good idea.

After mulling this over all day I think this is a very good idea. So now all I need is the questions that long for answers. I have a fair list from e-mail questions, of course, but I'm hopelessly blind to things that are obvious to me but not to everyone else. Any input in the form of questions (from you or anybody else) would be much appreciated.

I'm glad you like the idea. :D

I wish I had the time to offer a hand.

My suggestion would be to try to use and reuse the same or similar data through multiple examples. That would give the reader a connection between the different ways to visualize the same data with DPlot.

I'd love to reach out a hand on this one!
What is prefered?: coming up with a rough "table of contents" or an actual starters guid or basics tutorial?
Nice one day to add to my www.pluginmind.com website (active but still not filled with stuff) although it's a bit off-topic :-)

I can't promise how soon, though  : in the neir future beta-testing starts for me regarding to new software from someone else and things always come in between anyway. therefore I quiited planning long ago
Besides, I'm not a die-hard DPlotter myself so I still have to learn about the ins and outs myself ... although it might not be that necessary for setting up a starters guide, of coarse :P

Nothing fancy. I think a list of anything you get stuck on wondering how to do in DPlot is a good starting point.
